DRONECUBE / CONCEPT NOTES / 2026 One cube. Every way to move. Source: the original handwritten DroneCube sketch, reproduced on dronecube.io. Status: concept in development; this is not a production specification. THE CENTRAL IDEA A common modular cargo interface connects factories, autonomous ground transit, flying carriers, and home receiving docks. The cargo unit keeps its identity while the carrier changes. Not every trip needs a flight. THE JOURNEY 1. Factory: pack, identify, validate payload, and release to a verified receiver. 2. Ground transit: accept, lock, consolidate, transport, and transfer. 3. Flight: verify mass/balance and conditions, attach, fly, and dock. 4. Home: align, secure, acknowledge receipt, then release from the carrier. Returns and reusable packaging close the loop. PROPOSED MDPRS STANDARD AREAS Geometry and fit; payload and positive retention; identity and routing; docking and custody; safety and recovery; independent compatibility tests. Unit dimensions, mass classes, protocol formats, and hardware remain undefined. A receiver must acknowledge secure attachment before the current carrier releases. A rejected or interrupted handoff preserves custody and needs a recovery path. DEVELOPMENT SEQUENCE Define one cargo use case and a reference cube/dock. Prove transfers between independently built systems, including failure and recovery. Then qualify a bounded multimodal route with suitable partners and operating approval.
